circle of 5ths

The numbers are scale degrees in C: 12=C, 7=G, 2=D, 1=C#, etc.

Not only does it make a whimsical clock face, but captures some ideas I've been thinking about.

Take a regular keyboard, and imagine the F and B colored gray:

Now the white keys form a pentatonic scale, and the black keys form a different one.  Adding the gray keys to either gives a diatonic scale.

In the Circle of 5ths above, the white keys on the left are the 3 adjacent keys of one of the pentatonics; the black keys are the other two.  The right half has the complementary 'pentatonic keyboard'.

Just a way to play with some of the intrinsic symmetries.
